A few weeks ago I happen to come across some news about Lance Berkman trying to coax Roy Oswalt to become a St.Louis Cardinal. As much as I would love to have Oswalt, what would we do with the other starting pitchers? Could we used Westbrook as a middle relief guy but he would be a 8Mil relief guy. I would tend to think someone needs to move in order for Oswalt to work.
Today The Boston Globe reported: The St. Louis Cardinals and the New York Yankees are reportedly interested in free-agent Roy Oswalt.
Oswalt has seen his stock rise in recent weeks after it became apparent that the 34-year-old starter would be willing to seek a one-year deal in order to prove his own health. He had been looking for a three-year contract, however some teams were wary of his back issues which forced him to miss several starts last season for Philadelphia.
Oswalt had his option declined by the Philadelphia Phillies in October, making him a free-agent. As a result, the three-time All-Star received a $2 million buyout instead of $16 million in salary over the course of 2012.
In 23 games started for Philadelphia last season, Oswalt posted a 9-10 record with a 3.69 ERA and 93 strikeouts in 139 innings pitched. For his career, Oswalt has posted a 159-93 record with a stellar 3.21 ERA in 11 seasons with the Houston Astros and the Phillies.
