Molina Wins Fourth Gold Glove

The protegé has succeeded the master as Yadier Molina won his fourth Rawlings Gold Glove Award on Tuesday night. Molina, 29, has won the award for best defensive catcher in the National League for four straight seasons. He now tops previous catchers Tom Pagnozzi and mentor Mike Matheny, who both had won three times, for being the Cardinals catcher with the most Gold Glove Awards. Though he allowed a career-high 46 stolen bases and had a career-low 29% caught stealing percentage, Molina remains the standard for catching in baseball. He only had 5 errors and just 6 passed balls this season. Though his numbers are not as great as previous seasons, other ball clubs continue to think twice when running on Molina.
Mike Matheny, who won in 2000, 2003 and 2004, was among the baseball analysts that took part in the announcement of the awards. The man who help shape Molina into the fantastic catcher he has become is now a name being mentioned for a possible manager candidate to replace Tony La Russa.
Other Cardinals that were among the finalists for a Gold Glove at their position were pitcher Kyle Lohse, third baseman Daniel Descalso, and left fielder Matt Holliday.
